Prince Albert and Johnny Walker Red

Before I explain the title, I want to let you know that new content on this site may come at a rather frenetic pace. It seems that my brain has had a surge of creativity lately. I have several unfinished posts rattling around the empty spaces in my head. I guess you had better be prepared for a lot of new stuff coming hot and heavy.

Let’s talk about the title. Prince Albert is the brand of pipe tobacco that I smoke, and Johnny Walker Red is the brand of scotch I drink. One of the advantages of being my age (nearly 70), is that I am retired and don’t have a whole lot of demands on my kind. Also, my children are grown and tend to prefer chasing their own dreams rather than helping the old man pursue his. LOL! That means I have a lot more time for relaxation that I used to back in the day.

My favorite way to relax is to pour myself a couple of fingers of Johnny Walker over a couple of ice cubes, fill my pipe with Prince Albert, and sit back and enjoy my scotch and my smoke. Yes, I know that a diabetic should not drink alcohol and someone who has had COPD for some years now should not smoke, not even a pipe. However, the way I look at it he is that I am going to die sooner rather than later and we all need to die of something. The doctor needs to have a cause of death to put down on my death certificate. God forbid I just die of old age. “Old age” is not a medically approved cause of death anymore, it seems. I guess I am doing my doctor a favor. 🙂

Life is too short to make yourself suffer. Depriving yourself of things that give you pleasure just to extend your lifespan a year or two longer makes no sense to me. Maybe I’m in the minority here. I don’t know, nor do I, honestly, care if I am. I am old enough now to where I have earned the right to do what I please, even if that means going against the received medical wisdom. Medical wisdom is highly overvalued. Hell, it changes year-to-year. I remember not that long ago the medical establishment said eating eggs, butter, and drinking coffee was bad for you. Now, the latest research shows that all three of those horrible foods have positive health benefits! Who are you to believe?

I’ll tell you who! Yourself! Do what gives you pleasure and makes you feel good. For me, that includes an occasional scotch and smoking my pipe regularly. If that bothers you, so be it. I no longer feel that I need to worry about what someone else thinks about how I live my life. There was a time when I did pay attention to what other people thought of me. Not anymore! Now, the only opinion that matters to me is mine and the only opinion that should matter to you is yours. It’s your life. Live it your way!

Peace and love!
